your skin reflects what’s within

Tahnee McCrossin is SuperFeast‘s Office Manager. She is a student of herbalism, Taoism and Yoga, and founded Yoga for All in Newcastle, NSW. She teaches Yin yoga, practices chi ne tsang abdominal massage and loves to integrate her learnings from all fields.

‘Don’t get me wrong, every girl loves a bit of mascara, blush and lip gloss to enhance her natural beauty, but if you’re finding yourself covering up for fear of revealing what’s underneath, you might be missing an integral part of the radiant beauty puzzle – your insides!

We all like to talk about inner beauty, but if your glow-y spirit isn’t reflecting on your skin, it might be because your organs need some help.

It’s not sexy to talk about organs, but it is sexy to have great skin, so I am going to talk to you a tiny bit about some of my favourite tonic herbs that come in to shine and buff up your insides in order to help your outsides glow.

I fell into the world of tonic herbalism, in part, to enhance my own natural beauty and vitality. After suffering from hormonal acne in my late twenties, and enduring the aftermath (hyper pigmentation, anyone??), I turned to the tonic herbs to support my insides. I now boast clear skin, (mostly) pigmentation free and a youthful glow, despite my thirty- something age!! 😉

My favourite herbs to promote beauty, from the inside, out, are:

Schizandra – know as the ‘beauty berry,’ schizandra is our top tonic herb for amazing skin, especially if your trouble is hormonal. It tonifies all five organs in TCM, but is especially supportive of the liver. Try the 100 days of schizandra challenge (1 tsp of schizandra daily for 100 days) to clear acne, pigmentation, brighten skin and eyes, and firm skin.

He shou wu – known to restore lustrousness to hair and nails, and even regrow hair after hair-loss. He shou wu is also a great source of zinc and a wonderful beautifying herb that supports the Kidneys.

Blend of four tonic herbs, combines goji, longan, schizandra (the “three sisters”) and pearl (yep, superfine ground wild-crafted pearl powder!) to provide all the minerals needed to build healthy skin from within. Used by Chinese women for centuries, this blend is said to cleanse, tone and purify the organs, support the moisture mantle of the skin and protect the skin from sun damage.

At SuperFeast we love to see our community shining bright into the world, radiating health. We hope this info inspires you to look a little deeper at your skin care, and to walk the tonic herbal path for longevity, vitality and optimal health – all of which result in, as a bonus, beautiful skin!

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions about how to best use tonic herbs for beauty.

I’m Ere, Creative Director of Ere Perez Natural Cosmetics. This is more than a brand for me, it’s a lifelong dream come true. I was born in Mexico where I learned early on to value natural health and wellbeing. When I crossed the oceans and moved to gorgeous Sydney, I brought my heritage and love of natural living with me. Combined with the inspiration of people, places & nature I see around me daily, this is at the heart of everything I do – including being a mother to three children. Life is full and never dull! My natural makeup and skincare range is my absolute passion. I hope all women can feel healthy and beautiful – naturally.
