Pro Pick: Rice Powder Perfection with Ere Perez

Bronzer and blush are, without a doubt, two of my beauty kit faves! And when it comes to choosing beautiful, vegan, eco friendly powders that perform, I can’t go past Ere Perez’s range of Pure Rice Powders. Good for the planet AND good for me – the choice is black and white! So we know rice is good in sushi, but why is it good in these sleek, colour powder-filled compacts? Well you probably didn’t know this, but rice can actually absorb impurities from your skin as well as soaking up excess oil. This means you can get a gorgeous shine free finish regardless of your skin type, without being dried out and clogged up. The non-GMO rice particles are super fine which not only allows for a smooth application and silky texture, but it also allows the skin to BREATHE, which is oh-so-important for keeping the complexion at its healthy glowing best. Why do we use bronzer and blush? We all want that healthy, glowing complexion I mentioned above, right? Well, bronzer and blush …

How to deal with sensitive skin

Sensitive skin can be the bane of your life. Apart from being uncomfortable it can lead to redness that can make you self-conscious.  There are four main types of sensitivity: acne, rosacea, burning / stinging and contact dermatitis (allergies and irritants, also including eczema), but they all have inflammation in common. Common causes of sensitivities: Chemicals and irritants: Artificial perfumes, dyes, harsh chemicals and preservatives. Climate: dry winter air, over exposure to sun and also central heating or air conditioning. Poor diet & dehydration Dirt & pollution like exhaust fumes, smoke and dust that irritate and weaken the skin’s natural barrier. Hard water – iron, magnesium and calcium in water can affect skin quite a bit.   You can use a water softener to help. Hormones – there’s not really a huge amount you can do about hormones, except try to keep your skin generally as natural and clean as possible to minimize hormonal impact. Household cleaners and detergents- use natural ones as far as possible and if you are sensitive, use gloves when using cleaners etc. …

Inspirational Woman: Jacinta Tynan

It’s Mothers’ Day this weekend in many parts of the world (not in UK, so don’t worry, yours was in March!), which means it’s a time when we celebrate mothers everywhere and find ourselves thinking about the meaning of motherhood and how we’re doing at it! Motherhood is joyful, yet also hard work; it’s filled with triumphs, but also with massive fails; and really all we have to go on is what we learnt from our own mothers, what we learn from our friends and families and our own instincts (aka “winging it”) and what we learn along the way. We sometimes give ourselves a high five, and we sometimes feel like we’re letting the side down massively. Yes, motherhood is often an internal battle with our own maternal confidence! If you’ve ever wondered about your ability to be a mother, or, if you are already a mother, how you are doing, then you’ll definitely identify wtih Jacinta Tynan‘s new book, Mother Zen. Part memoir, part commentary and part manifesto on the ideas and philosophies …
