Nurturing the community through healthy organic products, one of Melbourne’s favourite organic supermarkets and holistic health centers, Terra Madre are thoughtfully adapting their business to better the earth. Co-owner of Terra Madre, Ryan talks about how they reduce waste, energy and greenhouse gas emissions across all areas of their business. “Organic food and sustainability go hand in hand. Organic food isn’t just about pesticide free produce, it’s about also looking after our plant and the world we live in.” From trading food scraps for chicken eggs, to investing in biodegradable packaging, Terra Madre truly practice what they preach. “We are always looking to reduce our packaging.” Ryan explains, “Our main fruit and veg grower packages our orders in reusable foldable crates, polystyrene gets sorted and sent back to the farmers, along with the plastic shrink wrap used to protect the palettes.”
As friends, we carry the happiness and hurts of our nearest & dearest. We ride the waves of life with each other – and I am so grateful for the amazing people who share their lives with me. Friends are different to family and lovers, these relationships have their own unique flare and intimacy and isn’t it amazing to be able to pick up the phone, or arrive on a doorstep, and be hugged, held, consoled, listened to, appreciated, propped-up, embraced, cheered up and encouraged? In life, sometimes our friends help us manage the other relationships in our life. We can talk about our family relationships and our romantic ones. Friendship can create a safe space to say how we really feel, get it all out, and vent, whether it’s about love, work or family dynamics. Friends can make us stronger and braver, remind us of our inner wisdom and reflect back who we are when we forget. Because we can all forget… we fall off wagons, give up on dreams, go back to situations …
Founders Juan and Ere Perez celebrated 20 years of marriage in Merida, Mexico earlier this month. Merida is one of Mexico’s cultural capitals and is close to Chichen-Itzá famous Mayan ruins and the natural cenotes (underground waterholes) found throughout the stunning Yucatan Peninsula. The colourful commitment ceremony was hosted at the stunning Hacienda Teya, founded in 1683, this cattle ranch turned to cultivating henequen (yellowish fibre from the agave plant) at the beginning of the 20th century. The abandoned hacienda was purchased in 1974 and restored to the classic beauty we see today, known for its traditional Yucatán restaurant, vast green gardens and seventeenth century ballrooms that host weddings like that of Juan and Ere.
Our brand was founded by Ere Perez, you probably know that by now. But did you know that her husband, Juan, is a co-founder? Juan has been a vital member of the team since day 1. Juan was recently interviews by Cosmetics Design and we wanted to share his words with you so you could get to know our CEO. We have always been a business of family and friends, and we love introducing our team to you! For us, our brand is about people and love. Here’s some info from Juan from the original interview… “Our brand was born in 2004. Like most family business it started humbly from the sunroom of our apartment in Tamarama, Sydney.”
My brand is one of my greatest loves. Beginning in Bondi, it has grown and expanded all the way to New York! We recently travelled to the Big Apple with my family and team of amazing people who put so much love and passion into Ere Perez. We met incredible people, trained our new distributors and exhibited our hearts out to thousands of people. For a small brand that began in Australia, we have loved the journey of sharing our products with people all over the world. Expanding to the US was a highlight of 2018. Seeing people discover our products, learn about the brand and explore our makeup & skincare made me so happy!
At Ere Perez we’re lucky to have a great diversity of people in our team. Our graphic designer, Carlos Agamez Garcia, who comes from Columbia is an amazing artist whose work is celebrated both in his home country and also in Sydney where he currently lives.
