As a makeup artist, I love playing with dramatic eyes, dark lips and lots of highlighter. In my makeup kit, I have lipsticks of every colour, but I used to leave the nude tones for smokey eyes or stronger “eye looks” as I felt like they didn’t bring enough colour.
I decided recently to leave my “intense dramatic makeup look” phase behind and explore my “is she even wearing makeup?” phase…
Soft skin, together with a dewy and lightly bronzed look and neutral lip shade is the perfect mix for healthy looking skin.
But how do you choose the ideal tone for you without ending with pale lips? Remember, we want to look natural but alive! And not as if our lips had vanished into our face!
There are 3 factors you must consider: skin, eyes and hair.
For instance, if your hair is black, deep brown, ashy brown or platinum blonde and your eyes are dark, blue or amber, then the cool tones flatter you most, so you should go for pinky tones:
- Clear skin: Olive Oil Lipstick – High Tea
- Medium skin: Cacao Lip Colour – Sway
- Dark skin: Olive Oil Lipstick – Cocktail
If you want more definition, you can line your lips first with our Sesame Lip Liner – Sweet.
If your hair is dark, red, gold brown or gold blonde and you have green, brown or amber eyes, then you look better with warm tones. I would recommend the peachy and beige tones, such as:
- For clear skin: Olive Oil Lipstick – Picnic
- For medium skin: Cacao Lip Colour – Hoopla
- For dark skin: Cacao Lip Colour – Mingle
If you want more definition, you can line your lips first with our Sesame Lip Liner – Shy or Naughty.
Remember that the secret is to find a shade that is like the natural colour of your lips, and not your skin colour in order not to look washed out.
And remember that this is not the absolute truth: play, explore and try different colours until you get the one you are most comfortable with!
Have fun!
