“It’s true. Flowers are always appropriate! We all know fresh flowers are an excellent way to show someone affection, brighten up a dreary room, or beautify a yard, but did you know that flowers are actually good for our overall wellbeing? From fighting aging to boosting your mental mood, flowers are good for us in numerous ways.
Let’s start from the inside out. Recent studies show the simple pleasure of seeing and smelling fresh flowers has multiple benefits for enhancing and improving our state of mind. Their scent provides aromatherapy for relaxation and a sense of peace, while the color variations have been shown to calm (softer tones) or invigorate and energize (bold, saturated colors). Fresh flowers also have been shown to improve health levels, such as reducing blood pressure and improving the rate of healing after surgeries. They also increase productivity, decrease stress and anxiety, and improve positivity, memory, and concentration at home, in the classroom, and at the office.
Some examples include lavender, jasmine, and lilac. They have scents that are particularly effective for relaxing and destressing. Spider plants, ficus, and peace lilies are known to help filter and clean the air we breathe. Eucalyptus, aloe vera, and chamomile have excellent medicinal abilities for soothing coughs, colds, and skin rashes. Many other plants such as Golden Pothos, Arrowhead Vine, Chinese Evergreen, Dracaena, Philodendron, Snake plants, and Vinca vines are specifically known to have positive health effects. A little research can reveal a multitude of holistic benefits obtained from flowers.
In addition to the incredible health benefits of flowers, they also have tremendous anti-aging properties, especially for our skin and hair. Roses are an excellent example. Known as the “Queen of Flowers”, roses possess a long lists of anti-properties, including antioxidants, antiseptic, antibacterial, anti-aging, and anti-inflammatory benefits. Made from diffusing rose petals with water and a few other ingredients, rose water packs a powerful punch of beauty benefits. It can be used to soothe skin irritations and treat acne. It softens skin and can be used to heal everything from cracked heels to dry, dull lips. Rose water is a natural eye makeup remover and can be used to relax tired eyes, as well as relieving headaches. Additionally, rose water nourishes hair follicles and can treat dandruff. Roses also improve mood and boost feelings of general happiness.
While rose water is particularly good for our skin, the hibiscus flower is an excellent natural remedy for healthy hair. Hibiscus flowers and leaves are rich in amino acids, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and alpha hydroxy acids. You can use the flowers and leaves to easily make your own hair serum, or you can purchase products containing hibiscus oil at many stores. Hibiscus is known to be especially helpful in fighting hair fall, inducing hair growth, preventing premature graying, and combating hair loss.
There are many other flowers with similar properties. Whether you could use an emotional boost or just want to make your skin and hair glow, treat yourself to some fresh flowers. For a relatively small cost, you can improve your mental health, boost your mood, and fight signs of aging all at the same time!”
