Monserrat González is a health and wellness nutritionist. She tells us about the benefits of a wonderful beverage: the Golden Milk.
“Let’s start by talking a little bit more about the properties of this great spice. Turmeric is a spice very similar to ginger, you could even say that they are from the same family. This spice provides endless properties and benefits, which is why it is considered one of the most used spices in India for healing purposes. Turmeric contains curcumin, which has a very similar effect to cortisone. That is why today I share the recipe of this beverage, which will bring endless benefits: “The Golden Milk”.
The golden milk helps to reduce depression, strengthens the immune system, relieves headaches, helps with joints, acts as a natural anti-inflammatory, is high in antioxidants, helps improve digestion, reduces gastrointestinal discomfort, decreases insomnia problems, and is excellent for people suffering from allergies.
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 cup almond milk (homemade)
- 3 tbsp. of turmeric powder
- Cinnamon – sticks or powder
- Raw honey
To create the turmeric paste, let’s start by mixing the ½ cup of water with 3 tablespoons of turmeric powder in a pot on low heat without letting it boil, we will mix well until there is a doughy and homogenous consistency. This paste is the one to be used for the creation of golden milk, while the rest that is not used can be refrigerated for 2-3 weeks in a hermetically sealed glass container.
Once we have the paste, we will serve the cup of almond milk with 1 teaspoon of turmeric paste in a previously heated pot. Let’s stir well without letting it boil, and in the process, we will add a cinnamon stick or a touch of cinnamon powder.
Once we have the gold colored milk, add 1 teaspoon of raw honey, stir well, serve and enjoy its benefits. This milk can be taken every morning, or at night.”
